Since the October holiday will soon be upon us, millions of Chinese are preparing to travel from their work cities to their homewtowns for a visit. Likewise, millions of country folks are preparing to travel from their hometowns to other famous destinations to get their pictures taken in front of statues and pictures. A few foreigners will also be traveling around the country.
All of these people travel by train, and they all have to wait in line to get a ticket. This is the scene all around the city, people lined up for hours, waiting to get a chance at the ticket when they go onsale like idiots trying to go to a rock concert.
This is a system that must be changed int he future, it is useless and inefficient and does not get anything done. You see, you can only buy a train ticket 4 days before you leave (no planning), but it actually works out to be 3 days advance cause you are buying on the 4rth day. This kind of timeframe is not the biggest problem; first, even if you are the first one at the window when the tickets open, some how the tickets will have already sold out. CORRUPTION. You cannot even buy a ticket to stand the whole trip the second it opens. The people in the ticket office are giving super special priveledge to their friends or those that make their wallet fat and it is getting to a dangerous point.
These days, the common people in Beijing have enough cash to take some trips if they want, they work hard and want a reward, but they have no chance because they do not have the contacts. You would be hard pressed to find an average Chinese willing to spend on a plane ticket as well. So you are stuck with this mess. Some people might be waiting in that line 4 hours for a ticket that was never available and have no way of being notified in advance. This is the kind of thing that will start small riots; no entertainment or reward!
In the line that Jiao Jiao waited, there was a man up front fighting with the person in the window. It only takes a few more angry people to turn that situation ugly.
We did eventually get tickets to a location, Qing Dao. We will see if we can get a hotel next. HAHA
