I am getting close to finishing another section of love and loss in Sichuan. However, this section is longer than the previous ones and so I am not quite finished. I figured that I should put some other posts up because there are many funny things to speak about.
Last Thursday, I was riding my scooter to work and when I got to a large intersection, near the Siemens offices, I noticed the stop light was not working. This had happened up the road recently and Jiao Jiao had called the authorities and they fixed the problem. So, I crept my way through the chaotic situation and continued on my way. I was thinking to myself...someone will for sure call and tell the people in charge that the stop light is not functioning.
4:30 pm, I am on the way home and it is still out. I think to myself, I cannot wait to tell Jiao Jiao about this... The whole day this thing has been off. Probably 10,000 people have been through this light today and not one person bothered to tell anyone... Not a bus driver, not a police officer - nobody.
Of course, I forgot to mention it to Jiao Jiao as we had other things going. Then, Friday afternoon she said to me that on Friday morning she went by and the light was off, so she called the authorities.
This is hilarious to me because the light made it through a whole 24 hour period and no one said anything until Jiao Jiao came across the problem. Who is getting hired by companies in this country and WTF are they good for honestly. Do they have a sense of corporate duty? They certainly do not have a sense of civic duty.
