I am not sure what the news is around the world, I am not sure what the news is here, but I do know that I have had a hell of a time getting Beijing 2008 Olympic tickets in the third round of ticketing and I know the stories that other people have shared with me, so I thought I would share with everyone reading.
Here is my most recent story for trying to buy Beijing 2008 Olympic tickets. May 5, 2008 at 9:00 am the third round of the Beijing 2008 Olympic tickets were supposed to go on sale, either by internet purchase or by lining up at any of a number of Bank of China branches around the China. So, I woke up at 2:00 am to watch baseball and the basketball playoffs and between innings I was reading the available tickets and marking down what I wanted and creating hyper links in a word document so I could be extremely efficient in purchasing. 9:00 am came around and I was at school with my computer ready to go, clicked my hyper links, my pages opened and I put them in my cart. I got my cart filled with both of my tickets, the soccer finals in the National Stadium on the 23rd and soccer at Workers stadium on my birthday. I clicked to purchase online...timed out. FUCK!!!
So, I redid all of my things, 9:20! I clicked purchase online again...FUCK!
Finally, I redid all of my things, 9:28, clicked purchased offline...hey, it worked I think.
I was repeatedly checking my account..."Performing system maintainance, please check back later" messages kept coming up when I would click for details. So I called the "hotline" to find out, but they could not check. I swore it worked, it did not time out, it went through...and it would not let me try to buy anymore, so it must have worked. Well, I had Jiao Jiao call...it didn't work, the tickets were not processed, and by that time they were all sold out. The thing that you learn in China - following rules gets you left high and dry.
So, here are a couple of other stories about buying Beijing 2008 Olympic tickets from people I know;
A friend of a friend is a field hockey player for a national team that will be competing in Beijing. Of course, in her time of playing for her country, she would like to have some of her family come and watch...but she cannot get ONE TICKET to her event in Beijing 2008 Olympics. She plays on the team and cannot get a single ticket to her events...how is that? Stay tuned to find out.
A colleague who came to China this year and was left out of rounds 1 and 2 due to late arrival, but will for sure be in town for the Beijing 2008 Olympics because of a 2 year contract, tried to order tickets through her counties national ticketing agent (not cheap for sure) - but she was unable to get tickets that way, even though they should have been available and she did everything right. How is that?
China did not give the tickets it had promised - just changed their mind. They had promised a certain percentage of the tickets be distributed and then said, in Darth Vader like form, "I am changing the deal, pray I do not change it more!"
Luckily there were the previous round one and two draws where I happened to draw successfully. Hope I get a Visa.
